Andy Simpson - Director
MEng(Hons) CEng MICE
Andy is a chartered engineer with 12 years’ experience, providing structural engineering design solutions for domestic, commercial, cultural, civic and transport projects. He particularly enjoys overcoming complex technical challenges, whilst building close relationships with clients, architects and contractors.
Andy has acquired international experience, from seismic strengthening of buildings in New Zealand to performing geotechnical ground investigations offshore Africa and the Middle East. He broadened his construction knowledge as full-time Resident Engineer on-site at Gatwick Airport.
Mark Kent - Director
Mark has been with Andrew Waring Associates for over 15 years. In this time he has completed 8 years of part time University training and subsequently gained a first class Master’s degree in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2014. He has experience in a wide range of building projects using a variety of building materials and techniques.
Mark has an advanced knowledge of the design and construction of industrial concrete ground floor slabs and has worked with industry leading flooring contractors on many high profile projects. He is a member of the Concrete Society and has a particular interest in fibre reinforced concrete.
David Stott - Technical Director
David is an engineer with over 25 years’ experience of civil and structural engineering projects including commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, retail, and maritime. Ranging from pre-acquisition surveys and feasibility studies to detailed design and site supervision.
David is also experienced in the refurbishment of listed and high security buildings.
Nigel Challis - Consultant
BEng(Hons) CEng MIStructE
Nigel has had more than 30 years’ experience working in civil and structural engineering design. He genuinely still enjoys his work, and has dealt with almost every aspect that a medium size consultancy may be faced with. He particularly enjoys multi material projects and working with architects and contractors. He has also undertaken a wide range of forensic survey commissions and has particular expertise in historic and contemporary oak framed buildings.
Andrew Waring - Consultant

Andrew, the founder of Andrew Waring Associates, has over 35 years’ experience encompassing every aspect of consultancy design in both the civil and structural engineering field. He has a particular passion for the repair and conservation of historic buildings and is personally appointed to a number of cathedrals.
Tony Mayhew - Consultant
BEng MSc DIC CEng MIStructE
Tony specialises in the design and project management of inshore marine civil engineering projects. Examples include ferry berthing and lifeboat facilities, sea walls, boat hoists, slipways, marina infrastructure, access bridges and pontoons. He also regularly undertakes infrastructure condition surveys for the RNLI, harbour authorities and marina operators, as well as private clients.
